Meet Kathy

Mom. Prosecutor. Community Leader.

At this critical time in our County, we must elect a skilled prosecutor who has the experience required to handle anything that comes our way. Someone who has been tested and stood strong against forces that threaten decent people and communities. We need strong leadership, unwearying effort and a commitment to our values.

I am Kathy Martin. I have the skills and experience to be your next District Attorney.

As your current Senior Deputy District Attorney, I am responsible for investigating and prosecuting some of the most serious and complex cases within the Office. This includes the only Murder case presently pending in Wayne County, a five defendant case requiring complex investigation, numerous court orders, expert witnesses and intense negotiations. My case load also includes shootings, assaults, drug dealing, domestic violence, threats, thefts and DUIs.

Before joining the Wayne County DA’s Office, I was the Acting District Attorney of the City and County of Philadelphia - the largest prosecutor’s office in Pennsylvania - serving more than 1.5 million citizens while prosecuting over 50,000 cases annually. I managed more than 260 attorneys and more than 300 professional staff members with an annual budget of nearly $40 million. I was the City’s chief prosecutor and the Office’s final authority on all hiring decisions, criminal charges, capital case designations, juvenile-lifer defendant resentencing recommendations, Brady evidence review determinations, DNA testing committee decisions, and immunity petitions.

Prior to my tenure in Philadelphia, I served as an Assistant DA in Pike County, where I represented the Commonwealth in cases ranging from murder to distribution of narcotics.

Leading up to Pike County, I practiced criminal law for decades in state and federal courts where I developed a reputation as a fierce litigator respected by judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys alike.

  • Practiced Criminal law in a county where plea bargaining or negotiating a case down did not happen
  • Encountered almost every issue that can arise during a trial thus honing and perfecting my jury trial skills
  • Confident and not afraid to present any case to a jury or a judge
  • Diligently and tirelessly prepared and prosecuted my cases so that no criminal who deserves jail goes free
  • Unmatched trial success rate - I have a 100% conviction rate in criminal jury trials as a prosecutor

On the personal side, I am a 1992 graduate of Temple University School of Law and a 1989 graduate of Villanova University, with honors. I was born and raised in PA and attended Catholic schools for 16 years and am a proud graduate of Trinity High School and Good Shepherd School in Camp Hill, PA.

While I am passionate about my work, family is at the center of my world. My husband, Bob, and I have two wonderful boys Mabret, 15, and Roman, 13. We are committed to raising gentlemen who are kind, brave, and smart. Our two dogs, Duke and Zeke, complete our family and supply pure joy everyday. I have three sisters, and nine nieces and nephews. My mom is a retired paralegal and my Dad is a Veteran, and a retired science teacher.

In 2013 I fulfilled a lifelong goal of traveling to Africa. The highlight of the trip was visiting the village in Ethiopia that was the birthplace of our son Mabret. The trip and the amazing people we met left an indelible impression on us. We came home and established The Shining Light Foundation that we hope will, for the first time in the village’s history, provide some of its residents with secondary education and a pathway out of day-to-day living and survival.

Among many community commitments I am a proud member of the Wayne County Committee of Republican Woman, Wayne County Business and Professional Women, the PA Farm Bureau, past President of the Wallenpaupack Area Little League, Wallenpaupack Area School District PTA, Fresh Air Fund Host, Habitat for Humanity Volunteer, Wallenpaupack Baseball Boosters Board Member and Volunteer and Team Organizer for the Greater Lake Region Relay for Life.
